Upcoming Panel in Boulder: “Public Lands – Private Ceremonies”

On January 21, 2009, from 7-9pm, this program will take place at Wolfe Law School in Boulder. It will examine the tension arising out of non-religious use of public lands which hold special ceremonial significance to indigenous peoples.

Specific examples which will be considered include:

  • the “Arizona Snowbowl Snow-making Case,”
  • the Mt. Taylor uranium exploration case, and
  • the Nine-Mile Canyon natural gas exploration case.

Presenters include:

  • Steven C. Moore, Esq., of the Native American Rights Fund,
  • Robert W. Lawrence, Esq., of Davis, Graham & Stubbs, and
  • LouAnn Jacobson, Manager of Canyons of the Ancients National Monument.

Professor Patty Limerick of the University of Colorado and Director of the Center of the American West will moderate.
